Mayor and Army Veteran, Rochelle Robinson, has organized a donation drive for the citizens of Douglasville to participate in a United Services Organization (USO) donation drive to honor the men and women who currently serve our country in the armed forces. “It is my distinct honor to spearhead this initiative,” Mayor Robinson said, “it is something near and dear to my heart and I know it makes a big difference for our men and women who are serving both at home and abroad.”
Donation boxes will be made available for those willing to contribute to the support of our men and women in uniform in five City of Douglasville buildings: City Hall, the Police Department, the Douglasville Conference Center, Hunter Park, and Jessie Davis Park. Donation boxes will be made available throughout the entire month of October and ending on Wednesday, October 31st at 5:00 p.m.
The items that are collected will be presented to the USO during a special ceremony held at the City Council meeting on November 5th. Donation items that the USO accepts include: iTunes gift cards, coffee, 10 oz. disposable paper cups for hot and cold drinks, plastic eating utensils, all sizes of paper plates, paper napkins, baby wipes, plastic sandwich and snack bags. Also, individual serving size packets of sugar, creamer, mayonnaise, mustard, and ketchup; as well as individually packed serving sizes of trail mix, cookies, cheese and crackers, nuts; bottled water, and fruit and pudding cups.
