The Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) Ethics Committee determined that the City of Douglasville met all the required qualifications to retain its certification as a Georgia Certified City of Ethics. Mayor Rochelle Robinson and City Manager Marcia Hampton attended the Awards Luncheon at the 2019 Mayors’ Day Conference on Sunday, January 27th inside the Grand Ballroom of the Atlanta Hilton Hotel. “I am ecstatic to be re-certified as a City of Ethics. Transparency and high ethical standards are cornerstones of the City of Douglasville, and this affirms all of our hard work throughout this process,” Mayor Rochelle Robinson said.
The Georgia Municipal Association began the City of Ethics program in 1999 and was developed by a panel of business and government leaders to encourage cities to adopt and adhere to a set of key ethical principles and adopt a local ethics ordinance. If a city pursues the designation, their ethics ordinance must contain definitions, prohibited conduct and due process for officials accused of violations in areas such as financial disclosures, conflicts of interests and outside employment. The ordinance must also contain penalties for city officials who violate the it. A panel of attorneys then review the ordinance to determine if the city is in compliance with the criteria set by the Georgia Municipal Association.
