The Douglasville Parks & Recreation Athletic Department kicked off the 2019 season of League of Stars Baseball at Hunter Park on Saturday April 13th.
Mayor Rochelle Robinson was on hand for the opening celebration along with the Morehouse College football team. "The League of Stars program provides an opportunity for children with mental and/or physical challenges to play baseball on a specially designed rubber turf field", said Kiam Jones, Douglasville Parks & Recreation Athletic Coordinator.
Volunteers are vital to this program, so if your school, sports team, club, civic organization, or other group is willing to assist one or more Saturdays, like the Morehouse football team did on opening day, fill out this form, or contact Kiam Jones at 678-449-3172, or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Mayor Robinson heard that some students, including some of the football players had been displaced when Morehouses' 130-year-old Graves House was evacuated after an issue with the sprinkler system caused several units to flood on April 10th.
Mayor Robinson rallied City of Douglasville employees to collect supplies and monetary donations to help the Morehouse students that were affected.
Thanks to the Morehouse College Football team for assisting with League of Stars, and City of Douglasville employees for assisting the Morehouse students.
