Dallas Highway LCI Study Recommendations Presented to Mayor and Council

Post Date:08/08/2019

Mayor and Council have been presented with a final recommendation for the Dallas Highway LCI Study by APD Urban Planning.

The Livable Centers Initiative (LCI) is a grant program to encourage healthy lifestyles by increasing walkability and overall vibrancy for communities. This study specifically targets the Dallas Highway corridor between Strickland and Brown streets.

“Once the State Route 92 relocation project is completed, Dallas Highway will cease to be a state route and will become a city street,” Douglasville Planning Manager, Michelle Wright, explained of the project, “when that happens, Dallas Highway will become the main entry way into the city on the North Side.”

With the relocation taking place and Dallas Highway becoming a major entry way into the city, the LCI study is focused on transportation and land-use improvement projects. Recommendations from the study include multi-use trails, beautification projects, on-street parking, and other infrastructure projects related to reducing car speeds and improving safety for drivers and pedestrians alike.

APD Urban Planning, who also has been hired to conduct the North Side Redevelopment study for the city, held many outreach meetings with residents who live near the corridor. The result was a reimagining of Dallas Highway as a community connector, rather than a divide.

“This project will create an inviting gateway into Douglasville that will be sure to enhance the neighborhood and connect the North Side with the downtown area in many different ways,” described Matt Bedsole, a planner with APD.
