Douglasville Celebrates Its 144th Birthday

Post Date:02/25/2019

To commemorate Douglasville’s 144th Birthday, the City of Douglasville, residents, businesses and the public gathered at the Douglasville Conference Center on February 25th for a birthday celebration.

Mayor Robinson, Council members,  and other elected officials made brief comments. The crowd also heard from former Council member Homer Danley, and Charlotte Rainwater, the daughter of former Mayor Harold Mozley. Mayor Mozley celebrated Douglasville's Diamond Jubilee 75th Birthday in 1945 by riding a Brahma bull down Veteran's Memorial Highway, known at the time as "Broad Street".

Mayor Robinson and Council members blew out the candles on a 144th year birthday cake.

“We’re excited about doing something different and involving everyone for the City’s birthday celebration this year,” Tourism Program Manager, Samantha Rosado, said of the celebration. “It’s a symbolic way of showing the City’s plan to set the community on a path of preservation, progress, and growth.”
