Mayor Robinson puts a high priority on the safety of our citizens, and that includes those who come to handle business in City Hall and use the Conference Center parking deck. During certain times of day, such as early morning and late afternoon when the sun is directly in driver's eyes, crossing Church Street can be hazardous.
To help drivers be aware of pedestrians in the crosswalk between the north and south sides of Church street, solar powered flashing crosswalk signals were recently installed.
Georgia state law is very clear about a drivers responsibility when approaching a crosswalk. If a pedestrian is IN the crosswalk, you MUST stop even if the pedestrian is not in your lane. Here is an infographic from PEDS.org a pedestrian safety advocacy group here in Georgia that explains the law perfectly.
