The City of Douglasville is proud to invest in the next generation of public service leaders. Our internship program offers meaningful, hands-on experience in local government, connecting students with real-world projects, mentorship, and professional development opportunities. Interns are placed in various departments based on interest, availability, and department needs. Internship opportunities vary by semester and are not guaranteed year-round. All positions are paid and require on-site availability Monday through Friday.

 

Overview

  • Typical Work Week: 40 hours per week
  • Pay Rate: $20 per hour
  • Work Schedule: Determined by department supervisor
  • Location: All work is performed onsite at designated city facilities

Eligibility Requirements

To be considered for the City of Douglasville Internship Program, applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Be an active student or recent graduate (within the last year) from an accredited college, university, or technical school.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or authorized to work in the United States.
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

What to Expect as an Intern

As an intern with the City of Douglasville, you'll gain more than just work experience—you’ll be part of a dynamic learning environment designed to help you grow personally and professionally.

  • Connect with fellow interns and city leaders through structured sessions covering topics like resume building, financial literacy, and professional development.
  • Explore how different departments operate by participating in scheduled shadow days with various city teams.
  • Collaborate with the internship cohort on a semester project that addresses a real challenge or opportunity in the City of Douglasville.
  • Receive regular guidance and feedback from supervisors to help you maximize your learning experience.

Departments

  • City Manager’s Office : Supports executive leadership, strategic planning, and special initiatives across city departments.
  • Community Development: Works on zoning, planning, and neighborhood revitalization.
  • Community Relations: Manages public communications, media relations, and special events to foster community engagement and maintain a positive public image of the city.
  • Economic Development: Attracts and supports business growth and workforce development in Douglasville.
  • Engineering: Supports infrastructure planning through design reviews and inspections.
  • Finance: Assists with budgeting, procurement, and financial analysis.
  • Human Resources: Handles recruitment, policy compliance, and employee services.
  • Legal: Provides support with policy research, document review, and compliance initiatives.
  • Organizational Development: Focuses on wellness, training, employee engagement, and professional development initiatives.
  • Parks and Recreation: Plans and delivers engaging recreational programs, events, and facility operations that promote community well-being and healthy lifestyles.
  • Public Services: Maintains city infrastructure including streets, sanitation, stormwater, and fleet management, ensuring a safe and clean environment for residents.

Please note that internship placements vary by semester based on departmental needs and available resources. Not all departments recruit interns each term.

  • May 14 – June 9: Internship applications open
  • August 12: First day of the Fall 2025 Internship Program
  • December 15: Last day of the program

Spring 2026 Internship Recruitment Timeline

  • October 13 – November 10: Internship applications open
  • January 12, 2026: First day of the Spring 2026 Internship Program
  • May 8, 2026: Last day of the program
