Douglasville City Administrative Offices Are Moving!
Published on January 01, 2026
The City of Douglasville is preparing to begin construction on a new City Hall facility, with demolition of the current buildings expected to begin at the start of 2026. The new construction is anticipated to take approximately two years to complete.
In preparation for the project, City departments and staff will begin relocating to temporary offices starting in November 2025, with all staff expected to be fully relocated by January 5, 2026.
During this transition and throughout construction, all City services will continue without interruption. Residents will still be able to visit in person, call, or email any City department as usual. Phone numbers and email addresses for all City departments and staff will remain the same. Updated location and service information will be available on the City’s website.
Reason for the Move and New City Hall Project
The decision to construct a new City Hall stems from the growing limitations and deteriorating condition of the City’s current facilities. City staff are currently spread across multiple aging buildings that were never originally designed to serve as office space.
Over the years, these facilities have been retrofitted to accommodate a growing workforce, but available space has now been exhausted. Additionally, key building infrastructure, such as the elevator system in the current City Hall, is nearing the end of its serviceable life, and both the City Hall and Annex facilities face increasing maintenance, safety, and accessibility concerns.
After exploring multiple options, the City determined that new construction was the most cost-effective solution. The new City Hall will be funded entirely through the City’s general fund, requiring no new taxes or tax increases. Once complete, the facility will provide a safe, secure, and accessible environment for both residents and staff, consolidating most City functions under one roof.
A Cost-Effective, Accessible, and Safe Future
The new City Hall project will eliminate the need for ongoing lease expenses, improve operational efficiency, and create a single, modern facility that enhances accessibility and service delivery for residents.
When complete, the new building will provide meeting space for City Council, boards, and authorities, and will serve as a welcoming hub for community business and civic engagement.
As part of the City Hall project, O’Neal Plaza will also undergo a coordinated renovation to reimagine the downtown public space and create a more inviting environment for residents and visitors. The plaza, last renovated to address drainage issues and to accommodate large-scale community events, will be transformed into a family-friendly gathering space that complements the new City Hall and surrounding downtown businesses.
With most major festivals and large events now hosted at the Town Green, the reimagined O’Neal Plaza will focus on providing a comfortable and relaxing space in the heart of downtown. Plans include adding shade trees, green space, and additional seating, as well as creating a new lawn area in front of the existing stage to serve as a central gathering spot.
The enhanced plaza will provide an ideal setting for small gatherings, casual meet-ups, outdoor performances, and movie nights, or simply a peaceful place to relax while waiting to dine at one of Douglasville’s many downtown restaurants. Together, the new City Hall and plaza improvements will establish a more vibrant, connected civic center for the community to enjoy.
