Douglasville Receives Outstanding Public Improvement Project Award
Published on August 28, 2025
The City of Douglasville has been awarded the Outstanding Public Improvement Project Award at the 2025 Georgia Downtown Conference, hosted this week in Gainesville, Georgia. The award, presented by the Georgia Downtown Association (GDA), recognizes the City’s GreyStone Amphitheater and Douglasville Town Green Project as an exemplary example of community-driven revitalization.
The project represents a transformational investment in the heart of downtown, converting a long-abandoned jail property into a vibrant community gathering space. Guided by public input during the Downtown Master Plan process, the vision for the Town Green and amphitheater was directly shaped by residents who identified the need for a central destination to host cultural events, civic gatherings, and everyday recreation.
“This recognition affirms what we’ve always believed—that downtown Douglasville is the heart of our community,” said Mayor Rochelle Robinson. “The Town Green and GreyStone Amphitheater have become places where neighbors gather, families connect, and memories are made. I’m incredibly proud of the teamwork that brought this vision to life and grateful to the Georgia Downtown Association for honoring our city in this way.”
City Manager Marcia Hampton added, “This award reflects our city's commitment to strategic investment shaped by community input. The Town Green and Amphitheater are intentional enhancements that support connectivity, encourage community use, and drive economic growth in our downtown district.”
Since its completion, the GreyStone Amphitheater has hosted concerts, festivals, and civic events, while the Town Green has provided a welcoming and flexible space for recreation, family activities, and community celebrations. Together, the spaces have elevated downtown’s accessibility, connectivity, and appeal to both residents and visitors.
The Georgia Downtown Association’s annual awards program highlights outstanding efforts in downtown revitalization and celebrates the people and projects shaping the future of Georgia’s communities. Douglasville was commended for the vision, creativity, and positive impact of the GreyStone Amphitheater and Town Green.
