The City of Douglasville is proud to announce that Mayor Rochelle Robinson has been nominated to serve as Chair of the Public Safety Committee on the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) Board of Directors. Mayor Robinson will be officially sworn in during GMA’s 2025 Annual Convention, scheduled for June 20–24 in Savannah.
The Georgia Municipal Association, established in 1933, represents 537 cities across the state and serves as the leading voice for municipal governments in Georgia. GMA provides legislative advocacy, educational programs, and technical consulting services to its member cities. The organization is governed by a 66-member Board of Directors composed of city officials from across Georgia.
GMA’s six standing policy committees, including the Public Safety Committee, play a vital role in shaping the association’s legislative agenda by reviewing proposed laws and offering input on key policy positions that affect cities throughout Georgia. These committees serve as forums for city officials to discuss legislative and policy issues and to advance recommendations to the GMA Legislative Policy Council.
As Chair of the Public Safety Committee, Mayor Robinson will lead discussions on critical issues impacting the safety and security of Georgia’s municipalities. Her leadership will help guide policy recommendations that support effective public safety strategies and initiatives across the state.
“I am honored to be nominated as Chair of the Public Safety Committee,” said Mayor Robinson. “Public safety is a cornerstone of thriving communities, and we have been well blessed to have an excellent Public Safety Team with our Chief of Police, Dr. Gary Sparks, the 2023 Georgia FBI National Academy Associates, Inc. Chief of the Year, and the 2023 Georgia FBI National Academy Associates, Inc. Department of the Year. I look forward to collaborating with fellow municipal leaders to enhance the well-being of our cities.”
Mayor Robinson’s appointment reflects her commitment to public service and her dedication to fostering safe and resilient communities. Her experience and leadership will be invaluable in addressing the challenges and opportunities facing Georgia’s municipalities in the realm of public safety.
